Efficient Workflows
Refinement waves allow teams to focus on "getting it right at each stage" before adding additional complexity in the next step. This dramatically reduces rework and improves production speed.
This guide outlines an efficient, repeatable workflow for developing ILT courses within MAXRES Construct. Following this structured process ensures rapid development, high-quality outputs, and reduced revision cycles.
Overview
Working in refinement waves allows course developers to systematically refine content at each stage before moving to the next, ensuring completeness and reducing rework downstream. This guide walks through the full production process.
Requirements
- Access to MAXRES Construct
- Permissions to create and edit TDD (Training Design Document), KLPs (Key Learning Points), and Elements
- Workspace Admin or Course Creator role
Workflow Steps
1. Refinement Wave 1 – Build and Validate the Training Design
- Generate the Training Design Document (TDD) using the Training Design Manager.
- Review and refine the TDD structure.
- When satisfied, process the full TDD to create the course structure in MAXRES Construct.
2. Refinement Wave 2 – Review and Seed KLP Definitions
- Review the generated KLP Seeds.
- Refine KLP definitions where necessary.
- Once validated, add the refined KLPs into the KLP Queue.
3. Refinement Wave 3 – Generate Initial Content
- Once all KLPs are accepted, process the KLP Queue to generate initial output content.
- Review AI-generated output for accuracy and completeness.
- Refine content as required using SME input or further AI refinement.
4. Refinement Wave 4 – Add Media and Supplementary Slides
- Insert required media assets into the course content.
- Add additional slides where needed (e.g., full-slide images).
- To add full-slide images:
- Add an Image Element to a KLP.
- In the Image Element Properties, select ILT as output type.
- Set the screen positioning to Right Screen.
- To add full-slide images:
5. Refinement Wave 5 – Text Finessing and Styling
- Finalize slide text content.
- Apply font styling as appropriate.
- Tidy layouts using Fast Preview mode to confirm basic formatting and positioning.
6. Full Lesson Preview
- Conduct a full preview of each lesson using Full Preview mode.
- Validate:
- Slide layouts
- Instructor and Student views
- Behaviour and functionality of interactive elements
7. Publishing and Document Generation
- Publish course outputs as required.
- If producing Instructor Guides:
- Ensure Instructor Guide is selected as an output type in each relevant Element.
- Instructor Guides will automatically be compiled during document publishing.
8. Advanced Review Options
- For advanced content review and project management, MAXRES Construct offers a Redmine integration (available as an optional upgrade).
- Redmine allows issue tracking, collaboration, and content review workflows integrated directly into the authoring platform.
By following this recommended workflow, you will create high-quality ILT courses quickly, efficiently, and with fewer downstream corrections.
